One Love Community Fridge with Cynthia Edorh

Our Friend, Cynthia Edorh, is one of the founding members of One Love Community Fridge. Their mission is to combat the problems of both food waste and food insecurity in NYC. We were so inspired by what she and One Love are doing we asked her to share more with our community.

“One Love Community Fridge (OLCF) is a grassroots non profit that has distributed over a million pounds of food to NYC Fridges since 2020. We partner with community groups, local and regional farms, schools, chefs and food purveyors to tackle head-on the twin problems of food waste and food insecurity. We work to connect, empower and engage the community through education and by providing access to fresh food, leading with respect, dignity and health.”

“OLCF works to eradicate hunger, food insecurity, malnutrition, and the stigma associated with all three, through an integrated, multi-generational, and inclusive movement that centers access to food, nutrition education, and sustainability. Through corporate partnerships and community engagements, we stock 25+ free community fridges across Brooklyn and Manhattan, serving some of New York City’s most vulnerable populations. Acting as a donation facilitator and partner to these individual fridges, we deliver thousands of pounds of free food each month.”

“Some examples of our programming include; Pack Days, where we focus on the needs of a certain group, such as women’s essentials or cold weather needs. These events are a moment for our volunteer community to come together with donations from brands and corporate partners to offer something beautiful and essential to the surrounding community.”

“Youth Education, where through visiting lectures and volunteer work days at the fridges, we empower the next generation of our community to cultivate the attitude of harvest and service while also offering tools for fighting food insecurity. Community Togetherness, where we participate in other organizations events, such as The Layout in Fort Greene Park or MoMA PS1’s Earth Day Celebration, to share information and empower the local community to fight food insecurity and facilitate ease and freedom for all fridge beneficiaries.”

At Lali, we are so inspired by what Cynthia and the entire One Love Community are doing. Follow their journey on Instagram: @onelovecommunityfridge
